The three-day research project Dancescape. Research project for landscape-based dance and performance practice is dedicated to current concepts and formats of movement practices that deal with dance and performance in the natural, cultural and urban landscape. The aim is to investigate the foundations, questions and challenges for dance and performance work with landscape references, which in turn develop perspectives for the protection of biodiversity and natural foundations of life in the age of the Anthropocene.

At the start of the research project, 20 artists and scientists are invited whose works are developed along these questions and aesthetic settings. In addition to choreographic works with an individual live experience for the audience, the focus is on works that interweave movement repertoires with media visual languages such as photography and film.

Lectures and group discussions flank the presentations of the artistic works in order to classify the landscape-related dance and performance practices in terms of dance history and to work out their location in the field of contemporary arts. The focus is on questions of conceptualisation and semantics as well as possible forms and formats of publication. Another aspect is barrier-free access criteria.

In this way, the research procect aims to present modes of action, poetic knowledge and intervention possibilities of dance in the radius of environment and landscape and to reflect on the transmission of body-based practices and principles of form in feedback talks and public panel discussions.

Based on the diverse artistic processes and positions of the participants, a long-term exchange forum is to be created that will present the knowledge formations and the potentials for cognition and sensitisation of landscape-related dance and performance practices to a broader public and actively support the transmission of practices in this promising field.
