CURATOR | DRAMATURG | MENTOR
Heike Albrecht works as a curator in the interdisciplinary programme area of the performing arts, with a focus on contemporary dance and performance.
Her work focuses on intentions and interactions that translate / keep translatable the concreteness of the body. Aspects of contemporary history and urban space developments within a changing society and its communities are connected in order to negotiate them artistically. The integration of dance studies, body history and the reflection of image cultures also play a central role.

Heike Albrecht directed the Dance | Performing Arts Programme at the LOFFT Theatre in Leipzig from 1999 – 2002. In cooperation with the Tanzarchiv Leipzig e.V., the international conference Moving Thoughts – Tanzen ist Denken took place there in 2000. As artistic director of the festival format Westend, she developed an interdisciplinary platform with the editions Westend 04 Maybe the sky is green and we are just colourblind and Westend 05 know your rights. She curated Tanznacht Berlin 2006 at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin and the festival format Tanz made in Berlin. From 2007 to 2010 she was artistic director of the Sophiensaele in Berlin. Subsequently she developed the programme series As we speak – Future languages for the Goethe-Institut in Ljubljana, Slovenia as part of the European Capital of Culture “Maribor 2012”. For the theatre festival FAVORITEN 2012 she was dramaturge/programme director. This was followed by the artistic direction of the 8th Tanznacht Berlin in a collaboration between Tanzfabrik Berlin and Galerie Ebensperger. At the invitation of the Goethe-Institut Chicago, the photo series Movement Traces was created as part of the residency series A little piece of Bauhaus and in collaboration with the Fashion, Body, Garment course at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. For the programme series What the Body Remembers. On the Actuality of Dance Heritage, she was curator at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin from 2018-19. In 2021, she co-curated the programme series 35 Years of the Environmental Library at the Zionskirche Berlin. Since 2020 she has been working with musician, audio archivist Mark Gergis as a project and production manager of the Syrian Cassette Archives (pilot phase).
She also works as a dramaturg, mentor and juror with a focus on performing arts and dance.
After her teaching career, Heike Albrecht studied dance and performing arts at the Moving On Center – School for Participatory Arts and Research in Oakland, CA.
