Dortmund
The focus of the theatre festival FAVORITEN 2012 was on twelve productions created in cooperation with designated venues and producers of independent theatre and dance in NRW.
The multi-faceted music theatre revue “Hajusom in Bollyland” dealt with the biographies of young refugees. Choreographer Yoshie Shibahara developed a dialogue of cultures in her dance performance “Exuviae”. In “Young & Furious”, a production by Samir Akika and Johannes Fundermann, eight young performers hurled their sensitivities onto the stage. “The Dresses of Women”, a production by Thorsten Lensing and Jan Hein, exposes the soul of a certain Rita (Ursina Lardi). “We watch you watch” by Philine Velhagen is a cheerfully subversive performance in urban space. “FASADA 1/2”, a production by kainkollektiv, explored the reality of the city of Krakow. HELIOS Theatre presented “Hinter den Spiegeln”, an imaginary journey of images and sounds for people eight and up. “Romantic Afternoon*” by Verena Billinger and Sebastian Schulz is an entertaining self-experiment on the subject of kissing. The wood project” by Felix Bürkle, a bow to the forest as a living being, moved between dance and installation. “Today: Kohlhaas” is a furious play about power, arbitrariness and resistance, realised by Theater Marabu & AGORA with the means of fairground theatre. copy & waste developed “Orlac Hand Out”, a pop cultural kaleidoscope in times of body tuning and gene design. “GRIND”, a creation by Jefta van Dinther, Minna Tiikainen and David Kiers, is a nerve-racking metaphor for our contemporary world.
The thematic series “Stay with me for a little while” established a new setting for the festival: the city itself. The rapidly changing living conditions of the modern city were taken up. Choreographers, directors, photographers, video artists and musicians developed artistic concepts of radical participation: tracing social and political realities, cooperating with cultures in the urban space such as parkour and jerking, networking in the city of Dortmund and directly involving its inhabitants were the keywords here. The festival opened with a unique philosophical party with “©oPirates Dortmund” by choreographer Richard Siegal. Its conclusion with “Favorits” gave an insight into the work of Raimund Hoghe, resident in NRW and a major protagonist of the European dance and performance scene.
