80 years of New Bauhaus in Chicago – 2019: 100 years of Bauhaus in Germany. On the occasion of these two anniversaries, the Goethe-Institut Chicago initiated an exhibition series from 2016 to 2018. Based on the interdisciplinary Bauhaus idea, ten artists from Chicago and Germany were invited to create A Little Piece of Bauhaus / Ein Stück Bauhaus situationally and site-specifically. The Goethe-Institut thus became an open platform for cross-border artistic dialogues between the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ Bauhaus, between past and future.

In her lecture Trace Movement at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Department of Fashion, Body & Garment, Heike Albrecht referred to Oskar Schlemmer’s Das Triadische Ballett (UA 1922) as well as his stage theories, in which the human figure in space was in the foreground. In his teaching, he synergistically brought together kinetic movement studies, figurative illustration and philosophy and placed the close interrelationship within the artistic work and the human body at the centre of his work. Based on this, current European developments in body image and movement research in contemporary dance and performance were presented and questioned. The photo series Trace MovementSpurenbewegung was created with the participation of the participants of the Post-Baccalaureate Certificate (Summer Bootcamp): Ann Stahl, Jue Wang, Mengyi Qin, Danielle F Grouse, Meilun He, Yuxuan Chen, Yiwei Wu, Junqi Qu.
